Download training plan template in Microsoft Word format.
Have you recently completed a process of strategic planning through which you discovered that either you or your employees will require additional training to meet some of your organization’s goals and objectives? Have you considered using a training plan template to help you schedule, plan for and organize that training a little more systematically? Strategic planning can be an excellent way for a company to create a visionary plan for the future, but often, in order to reach some of these lofty goals, the current employees of that organization will require additional training. This is where a training plan can be so vital and beneficial. In this article we will go into a little more detail with regard to the training plan, and show you the items/topics you should look for when searching for a training plan template.
What Is a Training Plan?
As time marches forward, change is inevitable, and a training plan is a formal way for you to plan for that change. Simply put, a training plan is a written document that, in response to the goals you’ve created for your company, identifies the additional training your employees will need to meet each goal. Besides defining the training that will be needed, the training plan will typically define the scope and depth of that training, the people who will be involved and the budget and/or cost associated with that training.
To use a simple example, let’s say one of the goals you’ve identified for your organization is to launch and maintain a website through which you will sell your company’s products. This is a big step, one that will obviously require various types of training for your employees. You’ll need a website creator, along with several staff members who can manage the website for you on daily basis. This is the information you will expand upon in the training plan, including the specific type of training needed, the individuals who will receive the training, and the projected costs for that training for which your company will have to budget.
Training Plan Template: Items/Topics that Must Be Addressed
When creating your training plan, there are several key items/topics that should always be addressed, and unless the training plan template you select has appropriate fields in which each of these topics can be listed, your document will not be comprehensive. These topics include:
• Business Need. The “business need” section is where you will identify WHY you need the specialized training. For example, if the business need was to improve communications so your company could remain current, you might decide to switch over to Microsoft Outlook—a program for which each of your employees will have to be trained, including ongoing training for new employees.
• Specific Type of Training Needed. Next to each business need you identify, you will need to list the specific training needed to address that goal, along with the names or number of people that will need to receive that training. Here you should also identify the individual, group or organization that will provide the training. Using the same example we used above, in the “Specific Training Needed” section you will now write down the type of training needed (Microsoft Outlook classroom training) the facilitator(s) (Microsoft representative) and the employees who will take the classes (All employees).
• Budget. In this section you will record the cost for the new training and how it will be paid for (budget item, grant, etc.).
• Time-Line. This section is where you will identify the date by which all training for this particular business need must be completed.
A training plan template is ideal for creating a snapshot view of your training needs and all the costs associated with that training.
